Herbstreise nach Wales vom 12.10. bis 20.10.2019

In October 2019 we had a wonderful trip to North Wales. We booked a very comfortable apartment in Dolgellau, Llwyn View 5, Gwynedd LL401LD. Our hosts Dyfan & Gwenan surprised us with a warm Welsh welcome.
On the way to Dolgellau from Birmingham airport we stopped according the recommendation from Dyfan at the fantastic Aquaduct in Froncysyllt and in Llangollen. Here we met the first old historical steam railroad.
Dolgellau is a small town and from here we explored Northern Wales. Within a radius of 50 or 60 km you can enjoy the coast and the mountains, also a lot of historical places and other touristic highlights.
To first trip leads us to Barmouth and the Harlech Castle. The castle was built by Edward I during his invasion of Wales between 1282 and 1289
On Monday we started from the local bike shop in Dolgellau to the he Mawddach Trail. This is a stunning multi-use path following the old disused railway line along the edge of the beautiful Mawddach estuary in Southern Snowdonia.
The highest mountain in Great Britain we clambered with the Snowdon Mountain Railway. On the top we had a beautiful view on the country.
The Precipice Walk on the next day was a lovely little walk with spectacular views of the Mawddach estuary Cader range along with Llyn Cynnwch. Later we spend some time in Aberdyfi.
The Centre for Alternative Technology, King Arthur’s Labyrinth and the Castell y Bere where the topics of the next day. Constructed by „Llywelyn the Great“ in the 1220s, the stone castle was intended to maintain his authority over the local people and to defend the south-west part of the princedom of Gwynedd.
On Friday we explored Llyn peninsula. Ok, the weather was not the best, but we had some spectacular views to the Irish Sea including very large rainbows.
Last day in wales we went to south for walking on the coast. A tour with Talyllyn Railway was the summit of the day.
On Sunday we was going home. We shortly visited the old Birmingham center.
